Update for June 30

Praise God!

If I added nothing else to this update that would be enough.

The challenge for all of us is to pay attention this week to the opportunities God gives us to impact others lives. An encouraging word, making contact with a new person, deepening a relationship by showing love and not just wishing others well, and maybe God blesses us enough to have the chance to share how God is working in our lives.

The opportunities are there every week...let's all slow down and catch them.

Great service Sunday. 31 attended and the stage was set for Seth to preach a great message next week on restoration as he concludes our series on the life of David by speaking on Nathan's encounter with the fallen king.

Some great things are a brewing....Betty and Cheryl volunteered (kind of) to help organize New Church's float in the fall festival parade....VBS will be here before you know it....and we are still preparing for a mid September official launch date...and we had a few new faces in church on Sunday as friends are being invited to join in our gatherings.

Michelle is working on our logo and it is looking good!

Pray that God will keep on bringing new people our way....that He will keep leading and guiding in our preparations for launch....that He will spur others to partner with us through prayer and financial support as we keep moving forward...that God uses us to bring lost souls to Him...we are looking for an acoustic guitar for our musician....and that this is the best plant ever!

Remember....New Church is a church with an attitude....humble ourselves, take a servants role, and obey (Phil 2).

Have a blessed Day!

Update from Firefighter Scott! June 23

Hey all!
I made it through fire training and have graduated from Firefighter 1. My knees are quite sore from so much getting low and I sure lost some weight in all that gear, but I am now better equipped to serve the community...so I am told.
I hear we had 25 in attendance Sunday, Kent delivered a great message, and Cari did a great job leading into communion. Thanks to both of them for their service.
We are still gearing up for our purposed launch in September, prayer/launch-team meetings on Wednesday evening will provide added time for us to seek God and get to know each other more, and the Children's team is weeding through all their research and information.
Deanna and I are working on our informational and fund raising letters as we seek God to move in hearts to join us in advancing God's kingdom in the Atlanta, Illinois area. New Church will need to raise funds for start up equipment and we will be looking for partners who are willing to commit over three years to help with expenses as the church gets established.
Some may look at things and think we are not moving, but we are...and with some amazing God sightings along the way! The launch team has been faithful in their giving! We are reaching new people (don't let the summer numbers fool you)! We are growing deeper together in Faith as we respond to God!
Remember Paul's constant encouragement to not give up...finish the race, persevere, strive, and the crown will be waiting!
Keep on praying! God is responding!
Sometimes I think we underestimate the power God has provided to us through prayer.

Have a blessed Day!

June 17, 2008—Update from New Church Ministries

Greetings all!

Deanna and I survived a grueling yet eye-opening week. The Assessment center and follow up “First Steps” seminar made for an intense week (we decided we definitely do not want to do it again for vacation but are very thankful for God allowing us to attend).

God used it to open our eyes as well as solidify some things.

During our seminar, the leader made the comment that the church is to be pregnant bearing other churches and some are out of unwanted pregnancies. He was stating that God’s intent for Christians, being part of a living organism called the church, is that we reproduce. If we stop reproducing, we die.

New Church is openly seeking God’s direction on how we can reach Atlanta and the surrounding areas. The process has caused many of us to rethink our ideas of church as we seek to engage our culture and seek to serve demonstrating the attitude of Christ.

I believe God is honoring that attitude as we follow His leading and are observant to where He is already working. Last week, the second time we have met without any advertisement, 29 people spent an hour together sharing praises, praying with and for each other in small groups, fellowshipping long after the message was over, and encountering God through sharing life with each other.

God has something brewing. Pray that we do not rush it; that we actively respond to Him; that we wait for Him to guide our steps through prayer; that we seek help from those who have been where we are; and that we keep our eyes open to the opportunities He brings our way.

Currently: youth group is meeting in the park and making new contacts (one was at our meeting Sunday), a new prayer czar, Jimmie, has been recruited, the impact team is seeking to have a breakfast during the fall festival, and our children’s team is still researching programs and materials.

In addition: talented artists (A.J and Michelle) are working on a visual image, we will be introducing and teaching how to use a new tool for evangelism and discipleship, and prayerfully we will be planning our official launch for the fall of 2008.

For us to effectively impact Atlanta and the surrounding communities, funding will need to be in place. God has blessed New Church Ministries with a launch team of faithful givers. We are very thankful for those He has moved to bless us who are outside of our local launch team through their gifts of money and equipment.

As we continue to gear up for the “grand opening” we will need additional funds for advertising, equipment and partial salary provision. Deanna and I, using our newfound knowledge, will be working on raising support. We would appreciate it greatly if you would let us know of others who may be interested in contributing and joining us as we seek to impact the lives of those in Atlanta and the surrounding communities with the message of God’s amazing love.

There is a lot to be done and we all want to jump in and get the church going but waiting in and for God through prayer and planning will enable us to lay solid foundations for New Church that will enable us to see souls won to Christ, be used to bring back those who have strayed, helping others on their spiritual journey, and planting new works until Christ’s return.

Thank you to all for your support and prayers.

P.S—Those local- we will begin meeting on Wednesday evenings for prayer. This Wednesday we will meet at the park in Atlanta at 7p.m.
